Norfolk considers future of Sheringham Recycling Centre after legal battle ends
Norfolk County Council says it can now review plans for a new Sheringham Recycling Centre after court proceedings concluded. The site's proximity to a children's and outdoor education centre had raised concerns. No decision has yet been made on how to proceed.
Norfolk County Council is reassessing plans for a new Sheringham Recycling Centre now that a legal challenge against the proposed site has concluded.
Officers told the Infrastructure and Development Select Committee on 9 July that they are now free to "regroup, review the capital plan" and work with the administration to decide how to take the matter forward.
The proposed site had attracted sensitivity due to its location close to a children's, family and outdoor education centre. The legal proceedings had effectively put planning on hold until their conclusion.
No timeline was given for a decision, and councillors were not told what alternatives, if any, are being considered. The committee heard that officers would work with the administration before any next steps are announced.
Sheringham currently relies on existing recycling facilities, and the question of a replacement or upgraded centre has been under discussion for some time. The outcome of the council's review will determine whether the originally proposed site goes ahead, is modified, or whether a different location is sought.
The committee took no formal vote on the matter, with members noting it would need to be worked through by officers and cabinet before returning for further scrutiny.
