£4.4m Approved for 87 New Independent Living Flats in Thorpe St Andrew
Cabinet has approved £4.4 million in capital funding to help housing provider Housing 21 build 87 independent living apartments for older people in Thorpe St Andrew, near Norwich. The money comes from an existing £29 million programme set aside for this type of scheme.
Eighty-seven new apartments for older people will be built in Thorpe St Andrew after Cabinet approved £4,393,500 in funding at its March meeting.
The money is a capital contribution to Registered Social Housing Provider Housing 21, drawn from an existing £29 million Independent Living capital programme. In return, the council secures nomination rights to the apartments — meaning it can refer older people who need this type of housing.
The scheme is close to a GP surgery and bus stops, which Cabinet members said made it a well-suited location for older residents who need easy access to services.
Cabinet Member for Public Health and Wellbeing Cllr Fran Whymark said the development would support the council's Adult Social Care transformation programme.
Cabinet also approved in principle a direct care contract with Housing 21, and delegated the completion of relevant contracts to the Director of Strategic Commissioning.
