Norwich Castle gardens revamp targets anti-social behaviour hotspot
Landscaping works are under way at the Castle Gardens in Norwich aimed at improving the area and tackling persistent anti-social behaviour. The works form part of broader improvements at the site following the reopening of the Castle Keep.
Norwich Castle's surrounding gardens are being redesigned in a project intended to improve the space for visitors and address anti-social behaviour that has blighted the area.
Councillors on the Norfolk Joint Museums Committee heard the update when reviewing minutes from the Norwich Area Museums Committee meeting held on 2 June 2026. The landscaping works are intended to make the Castle Gardens more welcoming and deter the anti-social behaviour problems that have affected the site.
The improvements come alongside a wider programme of changes at Norwich Castle following the reopening of the Keep in summer 2025 after a major renovation project. New visitor spaces, educational facilities and a rooftop battlements walkway have all been added as part of the Castle's transformation.
The Castle Gardens sit in a prominent central Norwich location and are used daily by residents and tourists alike. Anti-social behaviour in the area has been a long-standing concern for the city.
The committee also heard updates on other activity at Norwich museums, including the centenary of the Museum of Norwich at the Bridewell, a new project exploring the history of Harmer's clothing factory, the Norwich History Festival, and a deep clean at Strangers' Hall. A new early years space called Snap's Den has also opened at Norwich Castle.
