Great Yarmouth Clean Energy Campus Creates 650 Jobs
A new Operations and Maintenance Campus in Great Yarmouth has created 650 high-paying jobs in the clean energy sector, backed by the National Wealth Fund. Norfolk County Council is running skills bootcamps and working with colleges and the University of East Anglia to help young people access the new roles.
The development of a new Operations and Maintenance Campus in Great Yarmouth has generated 650 high-paying jobs in Norfolk's growing clean energy sector, councillors heard at the July meeting of Norfolk County Council.
The campus, described as a significant milestone for offshore wind and clean energy in the region, has been supported by the National Wealth Fund. The Cabinet Member for Business, Skills and Agriculture confirmed the jobs are now in place.
To help local people access these positions, Norfolk County Council is running energy skills "bootcamps" aimed at young people, with a focus on engineering, logistics and construction. Apprenticeship matching is also underway with employers at the campus.
The council is working with the further education sector to support relevant courses at colleges across Norfolk, as well as with the University of East Anglia, to build a pipeline of qualified workers for the clean energy industry.
The Great Yarmouth campus forms part of a broader push to develop Norfolk as a hub for offshore wind and renewable energy, an industry that has expanded significantly along the county's coastline in recent years.
