Norfolk's Health Overview Select Committee has agreed to make dentistry a scrutiny priority following a formal request from the Adult Social Care and Public Health Select Committee, which considered the county's Oral Health Strategic Framework at its meeting on 8 July 2026.

The Children, Families and Community Select Committee has also asked the health committee to examine the health-related elements of Norfolk's SEND Reform Plan, adding to what is shaping up to be a busy agenda for the committee in the months ahead.

Members asked that background material from the Oral Health Strategic Framework report — including the minutes from the Adult Social Care and Public Health Select Committee — be circulated to help them prepare for their dentistry scrutiny work.

The committee also heard that a previously planned Task and Finish Group on Speech and Language Therapy had not yet been convened, due to delays caused by the timing of local elections. Members were told the group remains a priority and will be established once a separate Task and Finish Group reviewing the committee's Link Member arrangements has completed its work.

The committee agreed its initial Forward Work Programme for the year, with further details to be worked out at a planning session held immediately after the meeting. Full details of the programme are expected to be developed over coming months as the new committee gets underway.

Cllr Lucy Shires was elected Chair and Cllr Justin Cork was elected Vice Chair at the start of the meeting, which lasted less than 20 minutes.
