Norfolk County Council's Children's Services department has been rated Outstanding in all four areas by Ofsted, placing it among the top-performing children's services authorities in the country.

The result was highlighted by councillors during the May meeting as a significant achievement, particularly given the financial pressures the council is navigating. An Outstanding rating across every category is rare and reflects the quality of support provided to children and young people in Norfolk, including those with special educational needs and disabilities.

The council's motion on protecting key services noted the rating but also stressed that maintaining this standard would require continued investment. Councillors from several groups acknowledged the result while debating whether budget pressures could put future performance at risk.

Children's Services is one of Norfolk County Council's largest spending commitments, sitting alongside Adult Social Care as part of roughly 50% of the total council budget. The Ofsted result comes at a time when the council faces a £41.6 million funding gap identified in its Medium Term Financial Strategy.
