Holt has been singled out as one of the five worst areas in Norfolk for police response times, members of the Norfolk Police and Crime Panel heard at their meeting on 27 April 2026.

A panel member raised the issue, highlighting the impact on victims when police assistance is not provided quickly enough. The Police and Crime Commissioner, Sarah Taylor, said she would provide further detail once the relevant facts had been confirmed.

The panel was told that a significant proportion of callouts in some areas involve non-crime matters — such as reports of broken-down vehicles — and that understanding the full demand profile is important when assessing performance, particularly in rural locations.

The Commissioner reassured members that response times are discussed regularly with the Chief Constable and senior officers, and said she expected additional measures to be brought forward to improve performance in rural areas.

The panel agreed to ask the Commissioner to provide a written response specifically addressing rural response times, with a focus on Holt.

The issue is part of a broader challenge facing rural policing across Norfolk, where distances between towns and limited officer numbers can affect how quickly help arrives after a 999 or 101 call.
