King's Lynn museum TikTok on Victorian grills clocks 277,000 views

A TikTok video exploring Victorian grills at King's Lynn Museum attracted 277,000 views, highlighting social media as a key tool for drawing visitors to Norfolk's museums. Visitor numbers at the site rose to 23,000 in 2025/26, up from 22,700 the previous year.

A short TikTok video exploring what lay beneath Victorian grills at King's Lynn Museum has racked up 277,000 views, committee members heard at the Norfolk Joint Museums Committee meeting on 24 April 2026.

The video is part of a wider push by Norfolk Museums Service to grow its social media presence across all sites in the county. The service has appointed social media champions at museums across Norfolk, each producing content in their own style for platforms including TikTok, Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest and TripAdvisor.

One committee member asked whether content made for short-form platforms like TikTok could also be shared elsewhere. The Head of Development confirmed the service maintains a broad social media presence and continues to use more traditional platforms alongside newer ones.

Officers said social media engagement has translated into real-world visits. King's Lynn Museum welcomed 23,000 visitors during 2025/26, a modest increase on the 22,700 recorded the previous year.

The museum also has a new exhibition in the pipeline. Unboxed: Discovering Lynn's Collections, funded by the Newman Legacy Project, is due to open on 12 June 2026 and will showcase items held in storage at King's Lynn for the first time.

The Kick the Dust youth heritage programme has also funded four traineeship positions split between the museum and local archives in King's Lynn, supporting young people into heritage careers.

Separately, Norfolk Museums Service confirmed it is actively involved in the St George's Guildhall project in King's Lynn, working alongside King's Lynn and West Norfolk Borough Council colleagues on plans for the historic site.
