The Department for Transport has confirmed £1.2 million in funding for Norfolk County Council to examine alternative options for the Norwich Western Link, Cabinet Member for Highways, Infrastructure and Transport Cllr Graham Plant told the April cabinet meeting.

The Norwich Western Link has been one of Norfolk's most contested infrastructure proposals, intended to provide a new road connection on the western side of the city. The fresh government funding suggests the existing plans are being reconsidered rather than simply taken forward.

Cllr Plant did not set out a timetable for the alternatives review or specify which options would be examined. The council has not indicated whether the original route remains on the table alongside other possibilities.

The funding comes from central government and will be used to assess what alternatives might look like — meaning no construction or final decisions are imminent. Residents and businesses near the proposed corridor are likely to be watching closely as the review gets under way.
