A new library has opened in King's Lynn, representing a £17 million investment in the town and surrounding West Norfolk area. The Council's Chair, Cllr Tom FitzPatrick, attended the opening ceremony and praised the project at the council's final full meeting before the May 2026 county elections.

The King's Lynn library is the latest in a series of capital projects Norfolk County Council says it has delivered in recent years. The Leader, Cllr Kay Mason Billig, cited the Herring Bridge, the Long Stratton Bypass, and the Norwich Castle Keep Project as further examples of infrastructure investment completed under the current administration.

Mason Billig also pointed to 70 electric buses now operating around Norwich and two new Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) schools planned for Downham Market and Great Yarmouth as evidence of the council's ongoing investment programme.

The announcements came at the council's last meeting before local elections on 1 May 2026, at which all 84 county council seats will be contested. The Leader acknowledged residents would have the opportunity to pass judgement on the current administration's record at the ballot box.

Also noted at the meeting was the planned opening of a new fire cadet unit in Fakenham later in 2026 — a town with particular significance as the location of the UK's first ever fire cadet unit, established in 1984.
